TRC Support Initiatives

Welcome to the TRC Support Initiatives Page!

At The Reading Circle, we believe that supporting our community in meaningful ways makes a lasting impact. Our support initiatives are at the heart of what we do, focusing on promoting literacy, education, and the joy of reading and writing. By championing various local and statewide initiatives, we aim to nurture a love of learning and a commitment to community growth.

Support Your Local Libraries Initiative

Support Your Local Library

Our first initiative is all about supporting our local libraries, which serve as cornerstones of knowledge and safe havens for readers of all ages. Together, we can make a difference, one initiative at a time!

At The Reading Circle (TRC), we believe in the importance of supporting our local libraries. Many libraries today face challenges like reduced federal funding and declining membership, leading to closures in some communities. We want to ensure that TRC members and our community at large are actively supporting these invaluable resources.

Why Support Libraries?

Local libraries offer a wealth of resources and events for everyone. From GED classes and business workshops to children's storytimes and summer reading programs, there's something for everyone at the library.

How You Can Help:

Get a Library Card: If you don't already have one, consider signing up for a library card and exploring what your local library has to offer.

Participate in Events: Libraries host a variety of events, including educational classes, children's programs, and community gatherings. Get involved and attend these events.

Borrow Books: Make use of the library's collection by checking out books, especially those on summer reading lists or other recommended reading.

TRC invites you to help us support our libraries and keep them thriving for future generations. Follow us on Facebook for more posts and updates on how you can get involved. Like, share, and engage with us as we work together to keep our libraries alive and well!

Reading Circle Support Initiative #2: Visit Your Local Barnes & Noble

As part of The Reading Circle’s commitment to uplifting literacy in every community, our next initiative encourages members to support their local Barnes & Noble stores. These bookstores play a key role in keeping literature accessible, discovering new authors, and strengthening community connections.

Barnes & Noble locations often serve as vibrant gathering spaces—hosting book clubs, author signings, children’s story hours, and community events that bring readers together. By supporting these stores, we help ensure that bookstores remain active, thriving parts of our neighborhoods.

Why Visit Barnes & Noble?

Barnes & Noble offers more than just books:

  • A space for families and young readers through story hours, early-reader sections, and educational activities.

  • A place to discover new authors, genres, and seasonal book displays curated for all ages.

  • Community-based events such as signing days, workshops, and holiday drives.

  • Support for literacy partnerships — including organizations like The Reading Circle that seek to give books directly to children and families.

How You Can Support:

  • Stop by your nearest Barnes & Noble: Explore the shelves, check out staff favorites, or pick up a new title for your next read.

  • Attend their events: Many stores host storytimes, children’s activities, or book signings that help build a culture of reading.

  • Purchase books during donation seasons: Many locations run holiday book drives and community programs—participating helps get books into the hands of children and families.

  • Engage with your local store manager: Let them know you appreciate their efforts and the role their store plays in the community.

Reading Circle Support Initiative #3: Visit Your Local Bookstores

As part of The Reading Circle’s commitment to uplifting literacy in every community, our next initiative encourages members to support their local independent bookstores — including mom-and-pop shops, niche bookstores, comic book stores, and anime bookstores. These small businesses play a vital role in keeping diverse stories accessible, nurturing creative expression, and strengthening community culture.

Independent bookstores often become the heart of their neighborhoods—hosting local author events, youth activities, book clubs, comic and manga meetups, and community programs that bring readers together. By supporting these shops, we help ensure that beloved bookstores remain active, thriving parts of our communities.

Why Visit Local Bookstores?

Local bookstores offer more than just books:

  • A space for families and young readers with children’s sections, educational books, and welcoming environments.

  • Unique and niche selections you won’t find in larger chains—cultural stories, indie authors, graphic novels, comics, manga, and anime titles.

  • Community-centered events such as open mics, signings, themed reading nights, and youth-focused gatherings.

  • Support for literacy partnerships — many independent stores love collaborating with organizations like The Reading Circle to give books directly to children and families.

How You Can Support

  • Visit a local bookstore near you: Explore their shelves, check out their staff picks, and discover hidden gems.

  • Attend community events: Many independent bookstores host workshops, comic readings, author visits, and hobby meetups.

  • Shop small during holiday and donation seasons: Your purchases help these family-owned businesses continue serving the community.

  • Build relationships: Introduce yourself to store owners and managers. Let them know The Reading Circle appreciates the critical role they play in literacy.
